It brings us so much joy when we hear from our recipeints of The Countdown. To know that our handcrafted gift brought each survivor hope and insoritation during such a difficult time, warms our heart.
Going through chemo is not fun, in fact it’s unbelievably scary and so much more so when you are told you have to do 16 rounds over 6 months of your life. It weighs on you every day and the fear can be overwhelming. The one thing that helps you get through it gives you strength, and makes you feel a little braver is when you have friends and family standing by your side and supporting you through it all. Come to find out I have some pretty amazing people in my life. A week before my chemo was going to start, I was presented with the most thoughtful and meaningful Chemo Countdown Calendar. Basically, it was this cool frame that had
little bags on it that represented each time I had to go to a chemo treatment. Each bag had an inspirational word on it and inside was a card with a description of the gift from one of my friends or family that made me feel so loved and appreciated; to say it boosted my spirits is an understatement! You don’t look forward to chemo, but I did look forward to opening those little doors of love…it made such a difference in my mindset…it made me feel that not only was I fighting for myself but I was fighting for them too!!
This countdown calendar helped me through the toughest time of my life. I looked forward to opening each treatment bag before I went into the hospital for my chemo. I received so many nice gifts and thoughtful things. Like a great blanket, and an IPad (!) gift certificates, a hoody, and all kinds of great things. I used these throughout my battle with chemo. This helped me get through my eight treatments. What an awesome idea.
I had a reoccurrence and the second time has been harder on me, which makes it harder on my family. I wanted to process this alone. I didn’t know how to tell my friends and family how to help this time… but a good friend brought over a Project Ribbon Countdown. This has allowed all of them to be a part of my journey and keep me encouraged along the way. I feel blessed to have all this support.
In 2019 I was diagnosed with colon cancer. It was the scariest day of my life. When the doctor gave me the news that I would have to endure 15 chemo treatments I thought it was the end of the world. When my sister presented me with this “chemo countdown” calendar I was floored! I couldn’t believe that so many friends and family reached out to me and took the time to give me a thoughtful and useful gift to help me get through the hell of chemo. It was something to actually look forward to each night before my treatments, at a time that I felt there wasn’t a lot to feel positive about. The countdown box was and still is an inspiration to me. Today it sits in my kitchen bay window and I use it to hold botanicals. Best gift I have ever received!
I received this chemo countdown from my husband after I was diagnosed with cancer. First, I couldn’t believe that he organized all these people to send gifts to me! It really was a little light at the end of the tunnel. It is a beautiful idea, especially knowing these people all took the time to pick something special out for me. My parents gave the last gift – before the last session, and it was a trip to Santa Barbara that we planned a couple of months later as a celebration. I still use the box still to keep my jewelry organized.
Thank you project Ribbon for making my treatments more bearable with this countdown calendar. My friends and family participated in my countdown gifts, which were my reward for each of my chemo treatments. After I made it through this hard time I have used it to store my jewelry and it looks great in my bedroom.
I had to wipe the mascara out from under my eyes! My friends and partner are the most amazing people to do this for me! I received a gratitude countdown from Project Ribbon today. My first gift is a massager; me, The Warrior, needs to be massaged! This countdown is my inspiration.
